You might have seen the recent Cancer Research UK ads; "OB_S__Y  - Guess what is the biggest preventable cause of cancer after smoking."

It's almost as if we think we've sorted the biggest cause of cancer - but we haven't!

Yes, the stats for the general population are good; smoking has fallen steadily since the 1950s, in 2016 15.8% of the adult population smoked which was down from 17.2% in 2015, and the second lowest in Europe.

But this isn't true for our mental health service users; 42% of them smoke. Many want to quit and we can help them.

Brief advice works and stopping smoking is four times more likely to be successful with support from a stop smoking service. We can help people to think of the benefits of quitting, make plans for activities to replace cigarettes and use stress management and relaxation techniques.
