Services Open as Usual Today
Services on the Bedford Health Village site are open for business as usual today and ready to see patients, following last nights fire on the site. If you have an appointment at Gilbert Hitchcock House or Florence Ball House today, just turn up as indicated in your appointment letter. Kimbolton Road remains partially closed but staff and patients can access the site.

Parking charges have been suspended today and over the weekend.

The fire broke out last night, 3 January 2019, in Shires House, a disused building on the Bedford Health Village site. The fire service were in attendance and the fire was contained. No casualties have been reported. The cause of the fire is unknown and is subject to investigation.
Patients and staff in the Archer Unit, Fountains Court and Cedar House based on the site were safe, and care continued through the night as usual. The day shift and the night shift were able to access and exit the site when shifts swapped over so there was no interruption to care in either unit.
Staff contacted patient's relatives to advise them of the fire widely reported in the media to reassure them that everyone in the unit was safe, and that we had been advised that there was no need to evacuate either building.

Thank You

Thank you to all our staff involved in managing the situation last night, and today, partner organisations, and of course, the Fire Service.

Shires House was a listed building and there are posts on social media expressing sadness about the demise of a building that many received care in or worked in. Some ELFT staff were even born there!
