ELFT Chair Marie Gabriel CBE has been appointed as Independent Chair of the emerging north east London Integrated Care System (ICS) part of the East London Health and Care Partnership. To ensure independence in her new role, Marie will be stepping down as ELFT Chair, a role she has held since October 2012.
Marie said: “I am sad to be leaving ELFT. It is such an amazing organisation and we have been on an incredible journey together. However, this is a great opportunity for me to impact on the quality of healthcare and improvement of health outcomes of all north east London residents, particularly the most vulnerable.
"My sadness is slightly tempered by the fact that I will continue to work with ELFT as one of the ELHCP partners. I very much appreciate the successes we have shared along the way, the experiences we have learned from and the sense of shared values and hope we enjoy. I will always treasure my time in the organisation.”
CEO Dr Navina Evans said, “Marie has been an exemplary Chair for us in ELFT. She has been a steady hand at the tiller, supporting the Trust Board, working with our Governors, and helping to guide and steer the Trust as it has developed over the last seven years. A straight talker and a great listener. And, as anyone who has spent time with Marie will know, she brings fun and energy to any project, meeting or event she is involved with, and is always the first on the dance floor at the staff awards party!
She is a role model for many, showing that a working class BAME female from East London can be anything they want to be. So while we will really miss her presence in ELFT, it is fitting that her new role will allow her to influence and impress a wider audience. I want to say Thank You to Marie for everything she has contributed to in the Trust.”
Appointment of New Chair
Marie’s leaving date is imminent. She will work with the Vice Chairs of the Trust, Mary Elford and Eileen Taylor, to ensure a smooth transition. Our Council of Governors, supported by the Board, have already started the process of recruiting a new Chair. The Council will also reach out to staff and stakeholders to seek their views.
Marie will continue to be Chair at Norfolk and Suffolk Foundation Trust
