The prestigious and highly competitive Health Service Journal (HSJ) Value Awards 2019 take place in Manchester in May, and two ELFT service teams are Finalists.

The ADHD Pathway Team in City & Hackney CAMHS have got through because of their success in Improving Access and Flow in Community Services. The team have developed systems that have resulted in remarkable waiting time reductions, allowing them to allocate more time to post diagnostic interventions.

Julie Proctor, CAMHS Psychological Therapies Lead said:  “The time taken from referral to our team to the completion and feedback of an ADHD assessment reduced from an average of 87 days to an average of 18 days. Parents and schools have fed back how important it is to have a diagnostic assessment completed as soon as possible so that the right school and home-based support can be in place to ensure better educational and developmental outcomes for these children.

“In terms of the team being nominated as finalists for the HSJ Awards, everyone is really pleased that their hard work has been recognised, and even if we don’t win, being nominated itself is an honour.

‘But we will certainly do our best to win in May!’

The other Trust service finalists are the Legal Affairs team led by Associate Director Jane Quinn, nominated for their part in helping to embed a sustained ‘No Blame Culture’ across the Trust. Their dedication in bringing about a marked reduction in terms of length of time a claim takes to be brought and in the time taken to settle is over two years faster than the national average.

“The Legal Affairs team seek to create a collaborative, open and transparent approach. Our focus is on learning from experience and alongside the Trust's commitment to creating a culture of improvement, there has been a marked saving in terms of cost and time spent on litigation. The wellbeing of staff and service users is at the heart of what we do and why we do it” said Ms Quinn.

The next step for both teams is to present their case to a panel of judges in April in London. The winners will be announced at the Awards ceremony in Manchester on May 23rd.
