Member of Parliament Jo Swinson recently highlighted that over 54,000 women a year lose their jobs because of pregnancy and maternity discrimination, while fathers were worried about taking shared parental leave because of the negative effect on their careers.

One important way companies can help end discrimination is to make sure all maternity and paternity policies are published and easy to find.

"The problem is that currently the onus is on the job applicant to ask about these policies, but the very act of asking the question suggests to the employer that the candidate may be considering having a child," Ms Swinson said.

East London Foundation Trust believe strongly that prospective employees should have a clear idea of parental leave policies without having to ask. Our current Maternity and Adoption Leave policy is available here. Trust policy on Shared Parental Leave for employees is here.
