Child Development Service

The Child Development Centre is based at the West Ham Lane Health Centre. It is for the multidisciplinary assessment of children with complex development difficulties.

The professionals involved in these assessments include, Community Paediatricians, Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapist, Speech and Language Therapists, Specialist Visitor and Key Co-ordinator. We also have professionals from the Education department at most assessments.

Children’s Physiotherapy

The Children’s Physiotherapy Team provide a child centred service to children who are registered with a Newham GP, under the age of 16, and who have a physical disability, condition or concern that impacts on their development and functional daily activities at home or in school. Sometimes only one appointment is needed and sometimes we are involved with the child until adulthood.

Community Children’s Nursing Service

The Community Children's Nursing Service (CCNS) provides a range of services to support children who reside within the London Borough of Newham and who require nursing care, palliative care, technical support nursing or dietetic nutritional support within their home or other community setting.

Looked After Children

We are a team of Specialist nurses and community Paediatricians who assess the health needs of Looked After Children & Young People.

Our team work closely colleagues from social services, education, and other local authorities and independent care providers. Our aim is to provide all children with excellent and consistent care and health support and the right environment to develop knowledge skills and values

Occupational Therapy

Occupational therapists support children, their family and other relevant people like teachers, to see what children find difficult with their daily activities and what we can do to help them, such as dressing, feeding themselves, riding a bike or handwriting.

Sickle Cell and Thalassaemia

We are the East London Foundation Trust (Community Health Newham) Sickle Cell and Thalassaemia Centre. We are a specialist nursing service serving the community in Newha.

The Sickle Cell and Thalassaemia Centre offers a specialist nursing service to children and adults who have been diagnosed with a major Haemoglobinopathy condition. The team is also part of the NHS England screening program: testing pregnant women and new-born babies to identify any unusual haemoglobin variants that may be present. We also screen anyone who may be interested in finding out their genotype.

Speech & Language Therapy, Schools Service

The Speech and Language Therapy service for schools helps children from 5 years old who attend a Newham School (Year1). They may need some extra support in communicating their needs or being understood. We work with parents, carers and school staff so that they can provide support and activities to help these children in all their environments

Early Years Speech and Language Therapy, Early Years Service

The Early Years Speech and Language Therapy service helps children from 0-5 years old who may need some extra support in communicating their needs or being understood. We often work with parents, carers, nursery and school staff so that they can provide support and activities to help these children in all their environments. The Early Years Speech and Language Therapy team is staffed by qualified Speech and Language Therapists who are supported by Speech and Language Therapy assistants, a Bilingual co-worker and Patient Pathway Coordinators.
