The Department of Psychological Medicine provides a mental health liaison service to people of all ages (16+) in Tower Hamlets.

The service provides mental health assessment to patients who attend the A&E department and to inpatients at The Royal London Hospital, Mile End Hospital or the London Chest Hospital.

The service is based on the RAID (Rapid Assessment, Interface & Discharge) model first piloted in Birmingham.

The multi-disciplinary team combines expertise in adult and older people’s mental health to provide assessment, treatment and management of mental health problems including anxiety, depression, dementia, schizophrenia and any other mental health or psychological problem in a ward setting or in the A&E department. They can also provide specialist alcohol and drug support.

Self presentation, referral by GP, other concerned agencies via triage nurse in the A&E Department
People in mental health crisis should attend the Reception area in A&E.
People will be assessed by one of a team of mental health practitioners.
