Question 1: Can you share your experience of taking care of your health during the pandemic?
One of my experiences during the pandemic was navigating the restrictions and their impact on my daily life. Communication became essential, especially with close family members, as we adjusted to the new norms. Overall, I had positive experiences with colleagues and managers who were attentive and supportive when needed. However, it wasn't always easy to understand the information provided due to masks. Despite these challenges, I managed to stay connected with my family and friends, which played a crucial role in maintaining my well-being.
Question 2: How do you prioritise your physical, mental, and emotional well-being in your daily routine?
Prioritising my mental well-being has been key. I recognised that self-care is not a luxury but a necessity. To ensure this, I blocked time for myself on my calendar and phone, making self-care a non-negotiable part of my daily routine. I also placed importance on my physical health by setting boundaries and redefining the value of perfectionism. Simple rituals, like list-making, helped me regain a sense of control over my days.
Question 3: What advice would you give to male colleagues to take better care of their health?
I would advise male colleagues to practice empathy and be attentive to signs that someone may be struggling. Financial or relationship problems, or even regular hangovers, could be indicators that all is not well. Simply expressing concern and taking the time to listen can make a significant difference. We all go through tough times, and acknowledging this humanises the support we offer one another.
Question 4: Have you ever faced any health challenges, and how did you overcome them?
Yes, I have faced health challenges. Overcoming them required allowing myself to feel and being patient with the pace of treatment and recovery, even when face-to-face contact wasn't possible. I also embraced change by receiving vaccinations to protect my health. Support from my friends and family, who are great listeners, played a vital role in my journey toward healing.
Question 5: How has your experience at ELFT impacted your approach to health and well-being?
Working at ELFT has significantly influenced my approach to health and well-being. The organisation has created work settings that prioritise the well-being of all staff. Individual workstations and a focus on managing heavy workloads have reduced the negative impacts on mental and physical health. Trust and positive relationships among colleagues, subordinates, and superiors have improved communication and psychological well-being. Managers at ELFT exhibit behaviors that alleviate stress and clarify performance expectations, contributing to job satisfaction. Overall, ELFT has helped me find meaning at work, make independent decisions, and foster intellectual stimulation, ultimately enhancing my well-being.
