On the 28th November Jane Kelly, Armed Forces Clinical Lead, Johanna Hrycak, Armed Forces Covenant Lead Milton Keynes and Eileen Womersley, Armed Forces Covenant Senior Officer Bedford Council, had the pleasure of meeting Reggie Ballos, Home Manager and Andy Cole, CEO of the Royal Star and Garter Charity that provides nursing home care for members of the armed forces community.
The Royal Star and Garter a charity has a hundred years of history, providing the best quality care for all those who have served and their partners. They run four dedicated nursing homes and state that they work as a family, providing loving and compassionate care to veterans and their partners living with a disability or dementia.
The purpose of the visit was to see how the home provides care that is specifically tailored to the Armed Forces community and how this is reflected both in the fabric of the building but also the philosophy and model of care that is delivered. The attention to detail when providing care for those who have dementia; from environments that are reflective of the era, to night staff coming to work in their pyjamas so they are all part of the family.
The in High Wycombe has met the standards of the Veteran Friendly Framework and has a CQC overall rating of Outstanding
