Psychotherapy Department (City & Hackney)

The Psychotherapy Department offers specialist psychotherapy treatments for adults over 18. This includes a range of therapies including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT), Individual and group psychodynamic psychotherapy (PDP), interpersonal therapy (IPT), couple therapy, and family therapy.

If you are experiencing psychological difficulties that are affecting your day-to-day life, your thinking processes, and responses, or your patterns of behaviour, speak to your GP in the first instance. They can direct you to the most appropriate service to help you.

Ways To Get Started

These modules were designed during the COVID-19 lockdown. You will be advised by your clinician which modules to access during your assessment with us.

These self-help presentations with voice-overs show the introductory sessions we offer in groups as a first stage of treatment within the service. There are three different series of presentations. Following your assessment, the psychotherapist will identify with you which one to complete from the list below. In order to avoid confusion, we recommend that you only access the presentations agreed during your assessment.

Psychotherapy Foundation Introduction (PFF)
We advise that you start with module 1 and work through them in order through to module 4. After completing module 1 there is a video to watch that we hope demonstrates how to take a curious attitude to your experiences and those of people you are interacting with in your life. Understanding and Managing PTSD
This is for people who have been through traumatic experiences and have been identified as having Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). The aim is to help you understand why you have developed PTSD and to be able to manage the symptoms.

We suggest that you:
Work through one section per week and complete the suggested tasks discussed at the end of each section
Think about your key areas of difficulty for discussion and treatment planning at your review
