Psychological Therapies for Older People

The Psychological Therapies service offers assessment and treatment for older people with dementia and functional mental health problems. The clinical and counselling psychologists based on the wards and within the community teams. They provide a range of therapies.

Psychologists can help you to work out why you are struggling at the moment and what skills can help you to get well and stay well. They can meet with you individually or you can join group. Psychologists also offer support to relatives and carers.

The team accept referrals from health and social care professionals in the borough. If you are worried about your mental health state or the feel an older person in your family is experiencing emotional or psychological difficulties, speak to your GP in the first instance

If you are staying on a ward or attending a community team, please talk to your key worker or care coordinator about how you are feeling. They can arrange a referral to the psychology team if they think it could help you.
