What this service does
CAMHS offers assessment and help to children, young people and their families with emotional, behavioural and mental health difficulties.
We assess, and where possible, find ways of working with the child or young person and those who look after them. The aim is for the child/young person (and the people who look after them) to better understand their problems and how to manage them in order to achieve positive change.
We aim to provide a service that respects the beliefs of those who use the service and is sensitive to background, culture, race and gender.

Conditions treated
Specialist CAMHS services are available to children and young people who are experiencing emotional and mental health difficulties which have been going on for some time, are complex or are severe. Most young people will have accessed mental health support through their school or through First Steps before coming to Specialist CAMHS.
Emotional, behavioural and mental health difficulties in children and young people are understood in the wider context of their social, emotional and physical environment. Each case is considered individually, with emphasis on understanding the particular needs of a young person and their family and helping these be met, rather than diagnosis.
