The team demonstrated their ongoing commitment to supporting people affected by Parkinson’s in the community with a packed programme of events.
Parkinson nurses Hazel White, Dominic Carter, and Louise Shears (pictured left to right) provided expert advice at information stands to engage directly with attendees at community events.
One particularly popular event was the tea and chat session held on World Parkinson’s Day itself, where people had the chance to speak with the team informally over tea and cake.
Leander Webb, BCHS Lead Nurse for Specialist Nurses, said: “It was a great opportunity to offer reassurance and build connections in a relaxed setting. All three nurses’ approachable, person-centred care at the information stands also made a real and lasting impression.”
A standout moment came when Hazel White met Caroline Rassell, CEO of Parkinson’s UK, a fitting recognition of the vital work being done locally and the strong collaboration between services and national organisations.
The events were organised by Parkinson’s UK Bedford, and the Parkinson’s Nurse Team were proud to support their efforts throughout the week. This joint working is a strong example of how partnerships can increase awareness and improve outcomes for people living with Parkinson’s.
The week’s activities raised an outstanding total of £6,164.18, a testament to the generosity of the local community and the incredible effort from everyone involved.
Leander added: “Sincere thanks go to Hazel, Louise, and Dominic for their exceptional contribution - and a special thanks also to Louise’s husband, Dave, who also kindly gave up his Saturday to support the final event, a much-appreciated gesture.
“This was a truly memorable week that not only raised funds and awareness but also showcased the compassion, dedication, and professionalism of the Bedford Parkinson’s team.”
