Service Users and Staff at Tower Hamlets Centre for Mental Health (across six In-Patient wards) celebrated came together to celebrate Eid and Easter.
The food was prepared in the Occupational Therapy kitchen, with assistance from service users, and entailed a range of curries, rice and salads, along with lots of sweet treats in the form of Easter Eggs! Where service users could not leave their ward, the food and goodies were taken to them so they did not miss out.
There was also a chance to engage in different therapeutic activities, including Artwork (as per photographs); a variety of Music and topical quizzes relating to Eid and Easter, enhancing knowledge and understanding of the significance of each.
Service users and Staff comments were overwhelming positive, and it was an event that demonstrated Inclusivity, Respect and Care, as well as collaboration between all the Therapies Staff (Occupational Therapy; Psychology and Arts Psychotherapy) and Ward staff, and Service Users.

As far as we know, it was a first in the Unit (maybe even in the Trust as a whole!), in terms of holding a joint celebration for Eid and Easter!
Below are some of the comments from Service Users:
"I really enjoyed the different activities, especially the art setup. It made me feel so festive and excited..."
"It was a bit loud in here today but the painting really helped me feel so calm... I don't think I've ever completed a colouring activity before today".
"Thank you for your efforts...the food is amazing and I got to learn so much about Eid and Easter thanks to the quiz".
Hopefully the success of this event will open the doors for further unique, educational and enjoyable, Celebratory Events and Festivals.
