The Newham Recovery College is due to launch in late 2023 and will provide sessions for anyone over the age of 18 living or working in the borough.
Its mission will be to promote wellbeing and to support people on their mental health recovery journey through education.
The collaborative project is being led by East London NHS Foundation Trust (ELFT) and all courses will be co-produced and co-delivered by people with lived experience alongside staff and other experts by profession.
Two events are planned for mid-January for anyone interested in learning more about the project and to share their ideas.
“We want to provide a mental health recovery college for the community and shaped by the community,” said Newham Recovery College project manager Becky Derham (pictured).
“If you are passionate about helping others, have lived experience of mental ill health, represent community groups or have ideas on what courses could make a genuine difference to the people living in Newham then we would welcome your support and expertise.”
She added: “Please do also pass details of our January events onto anyone you think might like to attend.”
The events are open to anyone with a connection to Newham, including residents, ELFT service users and carers, NHS staff, local authority staff and Newham voluntary sector organisations.
They will feature speakers, short taster sessions and group discussions.
