From 7am on Monday 15 June to 6:59am on Friday 19 June 2026, some NHS services may be affected by periods of industrial action involving resident doctors.
This period coincides with expected warmer weather and increased public activity linked to the start of the football World Cup, which may increase pressure on services.
Our priority is to continue providing safe, timely care to everyone who needs it. NHS services across the country remain open, and urgent and emergency care will continue to be available throughout this period.
What this means for you
- If you have an appointment, please attend as planned unless you are contacted directly and told otherwise
- If your appointment needs to be changed, you will be contacted and offered an alternative date or arrangement
- Planned care will continue wherever it is safe to do so
Accessing NHS care
If you need medical help, please continue to use NHS services as you normally would:
- NHS 111 is available online and by phone for urgent medical advice and to direct you to the most appropriate service
- GP practices and community pharmacies remain open and can support a wide range of health needs
- Urgent and emergency services remain available for serious or life-threatening conditions – call 999 or attend A&E immediately if needed
Mental health crisis support
If you are experiencing a mental health crisis in East London, Bedfordshire or Luton, urgent support continues to be available by calling NHS 111 and selecting the mental health option. This will connect you with local crisis services who can provide assessment, advice and support.
If there is an immediate risk to life, call 999 or attend A&E.
Staying well during periods of increased pressure
During this time, you can help protect services for those who need them most by:
- Using self-care or pharmacy advice for minor illnesses and injuries
- Keeping any repeat prescriptions up to date
- Ensuring you have essential medicines if you are due to travel or may be away from your usual routine
- Taking care in hot weather by staying hydrated, keeping cool, and avoiding unnecessary sun exposure during the hottest parts of the day
Thank you for helping us to keep services running smoothly and for supporting NHS teams during this period.
