This wasn't just a race, it was a team mission that went above and beyond. Most of the group only recently took up running using the NHS Couch to 5k app — but on race day, they showed their true 'fit' colours. The course was actually 5 miles, so they actually ran closer to 8km, smashing the original 5K training goal out of the park!
Here is the post-race scouting report:
Aameena “The Catalyst” Khan: Aameena was the driving force who proved that even an impulse decision can build a new passion — "Signing up for charity was something I never even dreamt I could do... doing it with my colleagues has been such a fun and memorable journey!"
Denesha “The Tenacious” Tracey: Denesha proved that "impossible" is just a starting point — "To run 5 miles seemed almost impossible at the start, but with the support of my colleagues it became possible."
Collins “The Conqueror” Oware: Our first finisher was inspired by his colleagues to lace up his trainers. Collins reflected on the day beautifully — When people unite for a good cause, incredible things happen... every step we ran symbolised hope, kindness, and support for ELFT charity."
Peace “Park Runner” Mubayi: Peace was a key part of the squad, showing great form throughout the 5 miles. He took on the challenge of Russell Park head-on and proved exactly what can be achieved when you put the training in.
Roy “Race Face” Maramba: Roy overcame his nerves by locking in his race face, finishing the run, and doing the team proud! — "I was doubtful and nervous, but I managed to get through thanks to the motivation and support from my colleagues."
Team Spirit: As Collins put it, this was a powerful display of unity, compassion, and shared purpose. Every one of them pushed through the winter conditions and did the ELFT Charity proud.
Richard Fradgley, Deputy Chief Executive and Executive Lead for the ELFT Charity said, "Congratulations to all the runners. We are so grateful to them for undertaking the run and raising money for the Trust's charity. We will put it to good use going further for our patients, services users and their families. Thank you."
