The category recognises teams making tangible improvements for staff, patients and populations and delivering results quickly.
The team recently won the 'Improving Value Award' at the annual ELFT Staff Awards on 16 October 2025.
CIMHS were shortlisted for an HSJ Award in recognition of their 2023-24 performance recovery plan which improved clinical efficiency, staff wellbeing and operational safety. During this time CIMHS achieved reduced waiting times for service users and reducing agency spend by more than £600k. This work has now received national recognition.
CIMHS support adults across North Newham who need mental health care within the community, particularly those with complex needs requiring integrated, multi-agency support.
The performance recovery programme has supported staff through addressing issues of burnout, fragmentation and low morale. This has been achieved by creating a psychologically safe, values-led environment where colleagues feel heard, supported and empowered to lead change.
Results included:

Reduction in referral-to-assessment times by 54% (from 29 to 13 days)

Reduced agency spend by £666,000 per year

Increased staff satisfaction and improved staff retention figures, with vacancy rates down from 43% to 30%

Service user feedback quadrupled, with individuals reporting improved trust, access, and experience.
CIMHS North is now supporting other ELFT community teams to replicate its model and share learning.
The team are also sharing their learning regionally and nationally through ICB and IHI networks.
Upcoming priorities include expanding community partnerships and continued work on reducing caseload sizes in-line with an increased focus on meaningful interventions.
