We are a 17-bed acute admission ward that provides in-patient psychiatric assessment and treatment for male adult residents of City and Hackney (for patients under the age of 65).
The service sets out to provide effective mental health care to help service users recover from a mental health crisis, and support their rehabilitation to get back on track with their lives.
Please note that the City and Hackney Centre for Mental Health is now a smoke-free site

On arrival, all inpatients will have a thorough assessment of their care needs and risk. This will lead to the development of a personalised treatment plan: a tailored rehabilitation programme focusing on the individuals specific needs and issues.
As well stabilising symptoms of mental illness, the team will focus on psychological interventions including substance misuse treatment, and a range of medical services including regimes of therapeutic medication and the delivery of enhanced physical health care packages. Sadly, people with mental health issues often have poor physical health too so this is a chance to take some baseline measurements and talk over next steps to being fitter and healthier.
Occupational health therapies and arts therapies are also available.
The individual's progress will be monitored by the clinical team and is based on the Care Programme Approach, a Recovery Model.
The ward has a multi-disciplinary team including mental health nurses, clinical support workers, clinical psychologists, a consultant psychiatrist, medical staff and peer support workers. They will work in partnership with the outpatients team, care co-ordinators, social workers and GPs to support the patient through their inpatient stay and prepare for going home.
When someone is admitted onto one of our wards, it is important that families and friends continue to support them.
It is a good idea to telephone the ward first to find out the visiting times and when is a good time to visit the person.
Our visiting times are usually from 2pm-8pm. But if you are coming a long way or will not be able to visit during those times, contact the ward manager. They will try to accommodate your needs.
Service users will appreciate small gifts, treats and items that they can use when in hospital. But mostly they will appreciate a conversation with you and news from the outside world.
Because we have to ensure our wards are safe and healthy, there are a number of items that you cannot bring onto our wards.
Children can visit by arrangement only. Speak to the ward manager in the first instance. There is a Family Visiting Room near the main entrance to support family visits.
