Community Mental Health Team (CMHT) for Older People in Newham
The Community Mental Health Team for Older People is a multidisciplinary mental health team that provides assessment, intervention and treatment for people over the age of 65 experiencing severe and enduring mental health distress and also people affected by a diagnosis of dementia. Professionals include Psychiatrists, Clinical Psychologists, Occupational Therapists, Nurses and Social Therapists. The CMHT operates as both an outpatient service, offering sessions at our clinic in Plaistow as well as home visits. Support includes:
- medical interventions for psychiatric conditions
- psychological therapy for people and their networks experiencing severe and enduring distress
- adaptations to homes and environment to support living independently at home
- and various therapeutic groups
The service aims to provide a high-quality service to older people with mental health problems by engaging and supporting service users, their carers, and their families. Supporting living and ageing well in Newham. The CMHT operates a Single Point of Entry for ALL referrals to Mental Health Services for Older People.
