The Single Point of Access offers triage for routine, urgent, and emergency referrals, information, and advice 7 days a week between 8am-10pm for 365 days a year.
Single Point of Access - Newham
The Single Point of Access (SPA) team are the first point of contact for patients and referrers for the following Community Health Services in Newham:
- Extended Primary Care Team for all localities
- Community Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy
- Urgent Community Response (Rapid Response and Fast Falls)
- District Nursing Teams, for all localities including bookings for the Dressing Clinics (complex dressings only)
- Care Navigation
- Referral and Assessment Team
They are also able to assist with Phlebotomy queries.

The Team takes referrals from GPs, hospital teams, the London Ambulance Service, statutory and non-statutory services, such as mental health services, the London Borough of Newham, and other professionals. People can refer themselves, or make enquiries on behalf of a family member or friend.
Calls are answered by an Administrator based within the team, who will take the basic details and pass the call to a qualified clinician who will triage the referral, assess the urgency, and arrange treatment, and care or provide advice.
The clinicians are knowledgeable about the range of different services and options. This helps callers to be directed to the most appropriate service to meet their needs. There is also a Duty Manager available at all times, who oversees the work of the Team.
