For service users needing assessment, diagnosis or treatment, referrals are initiated via their GP. In some cases, further screening appointments will be booked with the neighbourhood mental health teams prior to referral to our service. Once referred, you will be added to our waiting list for your referral to be screened by a clinician. Current wait times for this are 18 months. You will be sent a letter from our team to let you know if your referral has been accepted or if you have been closed to the service (and the reason for this). Once accepted, there is a further wait of 18 months for you to be seen by a clinician for assessment. Please note these waiting times are shorter for patients who already have a diagnosis and are in need of a medication review.
Tower Hamlets ADHD Service
About us
The Tower Hamlets ADHD service is a specialist service for adults suspected or diagnosed with ADHD. We offer 18-65 year olds living in Tower Hamlets, assessments and treatment for ADHD.
Treatment
At present, we can offer medication and some psycho-education by way of treatment. Most medication for ADHD is controlled, stimulant medication and thus we have to be very careful when prescribing and monitoring. We hope to offer a wider treatment option in the near future.
Shortages
There is a nationwide shortage and disruption of ADHD medications at present. While we understand this can be very frustrating for you, this is not something we have control over, as it is related to national and international supply and demand.
When prescribing we bear in mind national and local guidance as well as your personal situation and preference. We apologise for any inconvenience in obtaining medication prescribed from our clinic. Please get in touch if you are finding it difficult and we will try and advise to the best of our ability.
When starting medications, you might want to wait till we have the full range of options available to consider. If we delay the commencement of any treatment, we hope this to be temporary.
We sincerely hope the disruptions are short-term. Thank you for your patience.
