Paulette Hamilton MP met with staff and service users from Tower Hamlets and Newham at Trust Headquarters during her visit on June 16 2025.
Ms Hamilton spent time speaking with service users, clinicians, and senior leaders, gaining insight into how ELFT is working to reduce health inequalities in perinatal care. A key part of the visit was hearing directly from mothers who shared their lived experiences, offering powerful personal reflections on accessing mental health support during and after pregnancy.
ELFT is one of a number of pilot sites across England focused on tackling inequalities in maternal care. The trust has prioritised increasing access for Black African, Black Caribbean, and Mixed White/Black African and Caribbean women, communities that have often faced significant barriers to getting the support they need.
Reflecting on the visit, Ms Hamilton said,
“I was grateful to visit ELFT and hear from a range of voices, from frontline professionals and policymakers to those with lived experience. I especially appreciated the insights on Black maternal health and mental health, and I’m deeply thankful to the mums who shared their powerful personal stories.”
