How we can help

Having a baby is meant to be a joyous occasion, but if that’s not what you’re experiencing, know that you are not alone!

In fact, 1 in every 10 people expecting a baby or who have given birth experience anxiety, low mood, intrusive thoughts and other debilitating mental health symptom’s during their pregnancy and up to the first year after giving birth.

This can be incredibly scary and if it’s happening to you we understand that you may be having feelings of isolation and even shame. It may be difficult to tell those close to you because you’re sure they wouldn’t understand. We want to assure you that you don’t need to do this alone and we are here to offer you support through this emotional time.

This website has been created in collaboration with people who have used our Perinatal services. They’ve been in your shoes and we’ve helped them through some darker days. Perhaps you recognise some of these statements?

  • I’m worried about what people will think about me
  • I’m an awful person for not feeling happy and joyful
  • I’m worried other services will be called if I reach out for help
  • I’m worried that my friends and family will judge me
  • I’m worried that I’m just not a good parent

If any of this sounds familiar to you then know you’ve come to the right place. There is no judgement here. You are safe and in the caring hands of ELFT.
