This year, Learning Disability Week will run from 16-22 June. Its aim is to make sure everybody understands what it is like to have a learning disability.
For 2025, the theme is ‘Do you see me?’ – making sure that people are seen, heard, included and valued in all aspects of life.
ELFT’s Specialist Services for People with a Learning Disability (SPLD) will be holding numerous events throughout the week to allow the community to find out how we can support them and their healthcare needs. There is no need to register; just turn up on the day.
The events will be open to all people in Bedfordshire and Luton with a learning disability.
The dates, times and locations of the events can be found below:

On each day, the service will be offering health checks for attendees, including blood pressure, weight and height checks.
On Monday 16 June at 2pm, a sports therapy taster session will be available for service users and carers. This will include listening to some of their favourite music whilst exercising, playing a ball or bean bag game, and some light strength training.
Upon referral, SPLD can offer six sessions in Bedford or Luton and suggest other sports venues that may interest service users following their discharge.
During the event on Friday 20 June, the service’s Arts Therapy team will be running a music jam session, creating a lively buzz for everybody attending.
At 1pm during the event on Friday 20 June, staff will be facilitating a session to paint plant pots and large pebbles, which will form part of the Twinwoods Memory Garden. This is a space for service users to celebrate and remember the lives of loved ones who are no longer with us.
