Who we are
We are a team of Specialist nurses and community Paediatricians who assess the health needs of Looked After Children & Young People.
Our team work closely colleagues from social services, education, and other local authorities and independent care providers. Our aim is to provide all children with excellent and consistent care and health support and the right environment to develop knowledge skills and values
What we do?
Our Community Paediatricians deliver the Initial health assessments and formulate the initial health care plan
Our specialist nurses deliver Review health assessments for all Children in care placed by London Borough of Newham and other local authorities
We work with organisations and individuals to develop health services for Newham Looked After Children/Young People aged 0-18 years
We provide training and guidance on specific health issues for health and social care staff, foster carers and those planning to adopt.
We hold clinics at West Ham Lane Health Centre and Appleby Health Centre and also dependent on need we can carry out a small number of Home visits. Our Newham Children are often in placements out of borough and where possible we will invite them to return to Newham for their assessments
Who do we see?
We see Looked After Children and Young People aged 0-18 years who are referred to us by the London borough of Newham or other local authorities. Children can sometimes be known as children in care
It is a statutory requirement that all children and young people in care who are Looked After have initial health assessment within 20 working days of coming into care.
Review Health assessments are offered to children aged under five every six months, and yearly for those aged five to eighteen.
