About CAMHS

ELFT operates community CAMHS services in Luton and Bedfordshire. The service is divided into North Bedfordshire CAMHS and South Bedfordshire/Luton CAMHS teams, which are part of the ELFT Specialist Services directorate, together with East London CAMH services. 

We provide assessment and treatment of young people with complex, severe or persistent emotional, behavioural or developmental problems up to the age of 18 years.

North Bedfordshire CAMHS is based in Bedford and South Bedfordshire/Luton CAMHS is based across two bases in Dunstable and Luton. Both teams have additional services based in schools and other satellite sites across the county.  The CAMHS services receive up to 2000 referrals per annum. ELFT also subcontracts Tier 2 services from a range of third sector organisations including CHUMS, Bedford Open Door, Relate and Sorted.

CAMHS has a multidisciplinary staff group from a range of core child mental health disciplines including child psychology, child psychotherapy, family therapy, child and adolescent psychiatry and nursing.

We're hiring

The services comprise a number of multidisciplinary teams based upon care pathways including:

  • Emotional & Behavioural Teams (EBTs)
  • Neurodevelopmental Team (Learning Disability and Autism)
  • Adolescent Mental Health Team (AMHT) 
  • Eating Disorders Team (CYP-CEDS)
  • LAC & Targeted Outreach Teams including CAMHS Access Services (school teams and primary care liaison teams)
  • 7 day Crisis Assessment/Home treatment team. 

Each team or pathway is supported by one or more Clinical Team Leaders, who provide senior clinical leadership and direction to the work of the whole team. ELFT is known for it’s strong focus on clinical leadership, co-production and quality improvement. All consultants are supported to have a clinical leadership role and a focus on service improvement and development.

  • We've recently opened a local in-patient service locally
  • Our award wining CAMHS crisis team which has been expanded, currently setting up a Home Treatment Team, DBT service and an intensive community treatment pathway for Eating Disorders, all starting in 2022.
