Our Community
East London is a diverse and vibrant region in the London, known for its rich cultural mix, historical significance, and rapid transformation over the years. The community in East London reflects a blend of longstanding traditions and modernity, with a wide array of backgrounds, ethnicities, and lifestyles contributing to its dynamic atmosphere.
Historically, East London was known for its industrial landscape, with areas like Whitechapel and Bethnal Green being associated with working-class communities and labor movements. Although many of these industries have since declined, the area's working-class roots still shape its character today.
East London faces challenges such as poverty, inequality, and economic hardship. While some parts of the area have flourished, others still struggle with higher levels of unemployment and social deprivation. The gap between wealthy and low-income areas also remains a contentious issue and many of these socio and political challenges faced by our residents contribute to the regions mental wellbeing.
East London NHS Foundation trust provides mental health support throughout the boroughs of East London, specifically Tower Hamlets, Newham and City and Hackney. Our aim is to support the communities mental wellness, and wherever possible provide people with alternatives to hospital admission so that they can receive their care close to home, while remaining as independent possible.
The need for support to mental health issues is at an all time high and with your volunteers, residents in East London can receive greater support, better facilities and overall greater improvements to their health.
