Occupational Therapy Support for Schools
The Occupational Therapy Service School Model is currently on hold whilst we review and develop alternative ways of providing occupational therapy support to schools and promoting the embedding of occupational therapy strategies within everyday school practice.
We recognise the impact this may have on schools and families and are committed to identifying sustainable and effective ways of delivering support in the future.
Referrals
Whilst the School Model is not currently operational, schools may refer children and young people to the Occupational Therapy Service where there are concerns regarding functional difficulties that impact participation, access to learning, independence, or engagement in school activities. Referrals should be submitted using the universal SCYPS referral form.
Occupational Therapy may be appropriate where a child or young person is experiencing difficulties with everyday functional tasks that affect their ability to participate in school life.

Resources for Schools
Universal resources remain available for SENCOs, teachers, teaching assistants and other school staff to access, including the Occupational Therapy Education Pack. These resources are intended to support inclusive practice and help schools implement strategies within everyday classroom activities and routines.
Children and young people are most likely to make progress when skills are practised regularly within familiar environments and embedded throughout the school day. Consistent support and opportunities for practice are key to developing participation, independence and confidence in everyday activities.
