Working in partnership with our colleagues in LBN, Children's Centres and Health Visiting, we first recommend that you speak with your health visitor/specialist health visitor. They will be able to advise and support you and your child with their general development.
Feel free to access the pages on our website where you will find a variety of videos and resources on topics such as dressing, toileting, self-feeding, play, gross and fine gross motor skills.
Follow our link to find the timetable and location for your local Children’s Centre where you will have the chance to speak to a member of the Children’s OT Team at one of the many Stay and Play Sessions.
Contact your local Children’s Centre to find out when a member of our team will be there - please feel free to pop along and have a chat.
Welcome to our new Parent Coaching Model in Partnership with our colleagues in Speech & Language Therapy.
This offer is for parents of children who are pre-school age and have recently attended JetSet Group Sessions delivered by the Speech & Language Therapy Service. This is the next step where we will provide you with tools and strategies to support your child as they continue on their journey within Specialist Children & Young People Services (SCYPS). These sessions offer families the opportunity to meet with other parents and share their lived experience.
A member of our team will attend some of the JetSet Group Sessions and will tell you about Occupational Therapy and how we may be able to help your child. They will signpost you to our website, where you will find useful videos, information sheets and resources that you can use.
During your final JetSet Session, a member of our team will help you to sign up to one of our OT Parent Coaching Workshops.
What am I signing up to?
Parent Coaching workshops will be held at multiple locations around the borough.
You will be able to sign up to a date, time and location to suit you.
The workshops are held over 5 consecutive weeks and last for an hour and a half.
After one month, we will give you a call to check in and see how you are getting on and if necessary what further help you might need.
We have multiple options to support you and your child and we can discuss these with you at this time.
What happens at Parent Coaching Workshop?
Each week, a different topic will be discussed and explored using bespoke video resources created by the SCYPS OT team.
Parents will have lots of opportunity to share their experiences and explore how these strategies might work with their child.
Parents will be provided with an accompanying workbook to guide their thoughts and reflections for each week.
There will be specific strategies to practice at home to consolidate learning.
If a child with Autism requires support from an Occupational Therapist and is school age, please go to our 'School' page where you will find out about the service we offer.
As a parent, you many have concerns about how your child is managing with functional activities at school, like, getting changed for PE, developing self feeding skills, engaging in play in the playground, PE sessions and/or handwriting.
If this is the case speak to your SENCO about your concerns. They know how to contact us to tell us about your child and what they are finding difficult.
